BC Intellectuals Forum Highlights Political Disparity in Historical Palakurthi Constituency

Despite making up 92% of the voter base in Telangana's Palakurthi constituency, Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities remain historically excluded from legislative representation. BC Intellectuals Forum Chairman T. Chiranjeevulu (Retd. IAS) called on the Bahujan community to draw strength from the historic Telangana Armed Struggle, overcome political marginalization, and elect leaders from their own communities.

  • Speaking on the socio-political trajectory of the historic Palakurthi constituency (formerly Chennur), BC Intellectuals Forum Chairman and retired IAS officer T. Chiranjeevulu addressed the deep imbalance between demographic strength and actual political governance in Telangana. The region, which served as the epicenter of the Telangana Armed Struggle through historic uprisings in Kadivendi and Bairanpalli, holds over 2,52,000 voters—with 92% belonging to BC, SC, ST, and minority groups.

Despite significant demographic presence—including over 23,000 Yadavas, 20,000 Mudirajs, and 18,000 Padmashalis—the legislative seat has been held across 15 assembly elections by candidates from upper castes (12 terms by Velamas, 2 by Reddys, and 1 by Brahmins). Even celebrated freedom fighters like Nalla Narasimhulu faced electoral defeats against dominant-caste nominees. Chiranjeevulu urged Bahujan voters to convert their demographic majority into decisive democratic representation by rallying behind their own leaders rather than serving as vote banks for entrenched political dynasties.
